SUV driven at high speed; teen admits to filming moments before deadly impact
Reckless teen driver kills two women in Islamabad while Snapchatting
Throws phone away before arrest; court grants four-day physical remand
Two young women were killed late Monday night in Islamabad after a 16-year-old boy driving a white SUV rammed into their scooter while recording a Snapchat video, according to police documents and remand records reviewed by The Express Tribune.
Victims died from severe impact injuries
The victims, identified as Samreen (25) and Tabbinda (27), were part-time workers with an events management team at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). Their scooter was left completely crushed following the high-speed impact near Secretariat Chowk, opposite the metro station.
Both women suffered critical injuries and later died.
Suspect identified, believed to be son of IHC official
The accused has been identified as Muhammad Abuzar Reki, son of Muhammad Asif, who is believed to hold a senior position in the Islamabad High Court. Police have secured the FIR, remand documents, and the teen’s National Identity Card — which confirms he is 16 years old and does not possess a driver’s licence.
Admitted to filming on Snapchat before crash
According to the remand report, Abuzar admitted he was making a Snapchat video moments before striking the victims. Immediately after the collision, he threw his phone away, investigators said.
Police are now attempting to recover the device to retrieve the video taken seconds before the impact.
Four-day physical remand granted
The accused was presented before Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi, who approved a four-day physical remand and handed him over to the police for further investigation. His recorded address is from Spinny Road, Quetta.
CCTV, passengers, and legal status under review
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from around the accident site and are also verifying whether the suspect was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police say the case has become more complex due to the suspect’s age, legal standing, and family connections.
