King Charles Announces Reduced Cancer Treatment in New Year

Charles continues public duties while emphasizing awareness, early intervention, and adherence to medical guidance.

King Charles Shares Positive Health Update

King Charles, 77, announced in a televised broadcast that his cancer treatment can be reduced in the coming year, following early diagnosis and effective intervention. The message was delivered as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign, in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

“I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to doctors’ orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year,” he said.

Diagnosis and Treatment Journey

The monarch was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in February 2024, detected through tests following a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.

Since then, he has continued treatment and gradually resumed public duties in April 2025, participating in ceremonies, appearances, and foreign visits.

Televised Message and Awareness Campaign

The pre-recorded message, filmed in late November at Clarence House, focused on the importance of cancer screening and early detection.

Charles emphasized that following medical advice and attending regular screenings can significantly improve outcomes, encouraging the public to take proactive steps in managing their health.

Public Appearances and Charity Work

The king’s first public appearance after his diagnosis was at the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre, where he was also appointed as the new patron of Cancer Research UK.

Through his message, Charles aimed to combine a personal update with broader cancer awareness, urging citizens to participate in screenings and support cancer research initiatives.
