Four Assam Cricketers Suspended Over Corruption Allegations

FIR filed and BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit begins inquiry after Assam squad controversy during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.

Four Assam Cricketers Suspended

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four state cricketers amid corruption allegations during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 in Lucknow.

The players—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri—are accused of attempting to influence fellow Assam squad members. ACA Secretary Sanatan Das confirmed the suspensions, saying:

“They have been suspended to curtail any scope of further deterioration of the situation.”

During the suspension, the four are barred from participating in state-level tournaments, ACA-affiliated club matches, or any cricket-related activities including coaching, umpiring, or officiating. District associations have been instructed to enforce the order strictly.

FIR and BCCI Investigation

An FIR has been lodged with the Crime Branch in Guwahati, accusing the players of attempting to influence teammates during Assam’s SMAT 2025 participation, which ran from November 26 to December 8.

The BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an inquiry and found prima facie evidence of serious misconduct, prompting the immediate suspension.

Sanatan Das emphasized the severity of the matter:

“Prima facie, there appears to be involvement in serious misconduct affecting the sport. Immediate action was necessary to preserve the integrity of cricket in Assam.”

Impact on Assam’s Team

Assam did not progress to the ongoing Super League stage of SMAT 2025, and the controversy has drawn further scrutiny on the squad. ACA has alerted clubs and cricket academies to comply with the suspension order and maintain transparency during the ongoing investigation.

The association reaffirmed that these measures aim to safeguard the integrity of the sport while the legal and BCCI inquiries proceed.
