Lahore Braces for Light Rain Westerly Winds to Intensify Cold

Meteorological Department predicts light rain on December 21 and 22

Lahore is expected to experience light rain on December 21 and 22, as a fresh weather system moves into the region, bringing cooler temperatures and marking an end to the prolonged dry winter spell, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Residents of the provincial capital have been advised to prepare for cloudy to overcast skies and a noticeable chill in the air over the coming days.

Drizzle to Bring Cooler Conditions

Weather officials have forecast intermittent light rain across Lahore, which is likely to slightly reduce dryness but simultaneously intensify cold conditions. Experts say the drizzle will be accompanied by partly cloudy to overcast skies, creating typical winter weather across the city.

Westerly Winds to Intensify Cold

According to the Meteorological Department, a system of westerly winds entering Balochistan is expected to move towards Punjab, significantly increasing the intensity of cold in Lahore and surrounding areas.

Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk stated that while Karachi may experience only mild cold and occasional drizzle, cities including Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi are likely to witness a sharper drop in temperatures.

Rain and Snowfall Expected in Other Regions

The PMD has officially announced the end of the dry winter phase, as the incoming westerly system is forecast to bring rain and snowfall to several regions, including Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning that snowfall in mountainous areas could disrupt traffic and travel. Additionally, dense fog is expected to persist in parts of southern Punjab, potentially affecting early morning commuters.
