PIA reiterates safety commitment following emergency landing
A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operating from Jeddah to Lahore narrowly avoided a serious mid-air incident after experiencing a sudden drop in cabin pressure shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft, operating as flight PK-860, encountered reduced oxygen levels inside the cabin, triggering the automatic deployment of oxygen masks. The situation created momentary tension among passengers, but swift and composed action by the cabin crew helped maintain order.
Flight attendants immediately instructed passengers on the proper use of oxygen masks and ensured everyone remained seated and calm. Their prompt response played a crucial role in preventing panic and stabilizing the situation.
Upon assessing the technical issue, the pilot in command coordinated with air traffic control and made the decision to divert the aircraft to Dammam Airport as a precautionary safety measure. The plane landed safely, and no injuries were reported.
After landing, passengers were provided with assistance, refreshments, and necessary facilities while alternative arrangements were made to transport them onward to Lahore. Airline officials confirmed that all affected travelers were taken care of during the delay.
PIA stated that passenger safety remains its highest priority and that standard emergency protocols were followed throughout the incident. The airline also indicated that the aircraft would undergo a thorough technical inspection before returning to service.
The incident highlights the importance of crew training, quick decision-making, and adherence to aviation safety procedures, all of which contributed to a safe outcome.
