Pakistan U 19 Team Rewarded Rs10m Per Player After Historic Asia Cup Triumph

Celebration and Reflection

Fresh from their Asia Cup victory, the Pakistan Under-19 cricket team held a press conference with the trophy at a private hotel, reflecting on the journey, preparation, and collective effort behind their historic success.

Head coach Shahid Anwar, mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Pakistan Cricket Board officials were present, highlighting the strategic planning and preparation that shaped the team’s campaign.

Fearless Cricket

Head coach Shahid Anwar revealed that the team decided early on to play fearless cricket, aiming not just to win the trophy but to win hearts.

The preparation process began on June 17, when 70 players were called for trials, after which selected players were given opportunities in ODI tournaments. All 70 players were evaluated on merit, and competitive exposure helped build confidence and readiness for high-pressure matches.

PM’s Support and Reward

Mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed shared that the team met the prime minister earlier in the day, whose encouragement lifted player morale. He confirmed that the prime minister announced Rs10 million each for the players in recognition of their achievement.

Sarfaraz expressed hope that this squad would go on to win many more trophies for Pakistan.

Team Effort, Not One-Man Show

Sarfaraz emphasized that the victory was a team achievement, not the result of individual brilliance. He highlighted strong partnerships, especially from Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain, and praised the lower order for performing under pressure.

Every player contributed, and joint hard work and high morale were key to success.

Aggressive and Focused Approach

Batsman Sameer Minhas explained that the team played aggressive cricket against India, following clear instructions from management. He admitted a mistake in the first match against India but noted the team’s morale improved significantly after Bangladesh match.

Sarfaraz described Sameer’s later innings as extraordinary, but stressed that labeling the win as a one-man show would be unfair. Sameer credited Allah for his success and vowed to continue performing for the team.

Unity, Responsibility, and Mindset

Under-19 captain highlighted that victory was a team responsibility, while management made it clear that defeat would be individual responsibility. This fostered a trusting and positive environment, allowing players to perform freely.

Player Farhan Yousuf admitted his performance could improve but emphasized that the team’s goal was to play natural, fearless cricket and deliver the best for Pakistan.

Sarfaraz Ahmed praised the squad’s mindset, noting that even when the Indian team displayed negative behavior, Pakistani players were advised to remain dignified and play memorable cricket.

Looking Ahead

Both coaches and players expressed confidence in the squad’s talent and mindset, believing they can bring more honours to Pakistan in the future. The PM’s encouragement and financial reward further motivated the team to continue striving for excellence.
