AI as the New Engine of Economic Growth
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Friday that artificial intelligence (AI) is set to become the driving force of Pakistan’s economic strength. Speaking at the AI Rise Pakistan Expo 2025, he highlighted the government’s efforts to digitise the country under the E-Pakistan initiative of the Uraan Pakistan programme.
Advancing in Space and Deep-Tech
Iqbal emphasised that Pakistan is making sustained progress in the space sector, while establishing centres for quantum computing, nanotechnology, and advanced manufacturing. He stated that quantum technology will define global competitiveness in the coming years, and the Quantum Valley Pakistan is being positioned as the country’s hub for the deep-tech economy.
Robotics and Industrial Modernisation
The planning minister highlighted the role of robotics in modernising Pakistan’s industries, aiming to improve productivity and competitiveness. By integrating advanced technology, Pakistan aims to modernise industrial operations and boost exports.
Satellite Technology and Industry-Academia Linkages
Iqbal added that satellite technology is strengthening key sectors, including food security, trade, and communications. Efforts are also underway to link university research with industry, ensuring that innovation drives both domestic growth and global competitiveness.
Uraan Pakistan: A Vision for Digital and Export Growth
Under the Uraan Pakistan vision, the E-Pakistan strategy has been finalised with a focus on three main pillars: exports, the digital economy, and innovation. The government aims to equip Pakistan with the technology and tools necessary to become a competitive nation, capable of leading in the global economy.
Iqbal concluded that only nations that lead in technology will shape the future of global economic leadership, and Pakistan is working to position itself among them.
