Interim management plans underway as PCB steps in following Ali Tareen’s exit
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated consultations to appoint an interim management team for the Multan Sultans ahead of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11, sources confirmed.
Several former national cricketers are being considered for key roles in the franchise’s coaching and administrative setup, as the PCB temporarily oversees operations following the departure of former owner Ali Tareen.
Leading Candidates for Coaching Roles
Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, spin legend Mushtaq Ahmed, and ex-batsman Taufeeq Umar are among the top contenders. Mushtaq Ahmed’s previous experience with the franchise as a spin consultant is expected to strengthen his candidacy, as he is already familiar with the Sultans’ environment and team dynamics.
Administrative Oversight
Sources also indicated that former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is being considered for administrative responsibilities related to the franchise, though no formal decisions have been made. The final management structure will require the approval of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi before being officially announced.
PCB to Manage Multan Sultans During PSL 11
For the upcoming season, the PCB will directly oversee all operational and administrative affairs of Multan Sultans. This arrangement will continue throughout PSL 11, ensuring smooth functioning of the franchise while the search for a new owner is underway.
The exit of Ali Tareen, who left after not receiving a PSL renewal letter, prompted the board to temporarily take charge and maintain continuity ahead of the next season.
