Multan Sultans’ owner calls for transparency, shared decision-making, and structured management.
A Step Toward Resolution
After weeks of tension between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, the situation appears to be easing.
Ali Tareen has now reached out directly to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, signaling a move away from confrontation and toward constructive reform in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In a letter made public, Tareen expressed his intention to strengthen the PSL’s structure and restore mutual trust. He emphasized that the league is a “national asset” that should be managed through transparency, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Tareen’s Message: From Friction to Reform
On social media platform X, Tareen shared,
“Even though tearing the notice was quite satisfying, it’s time to move forward. In recognition of the PSL as a national asset, we’re putting grievances aside and aiming for a fresh relationship with the board one built on transparency, cooperation and trust.”
He added that he had written to the PCB chairman proposing four key reforms designed to strengthen how the PSL is run and ensure that franchises have a fair, structured role in decision-making processes.
Four Key Reforms Proposed by Ali Tareen
- Formal Franchise Representation:
Inclusion of franchise representatives in all PSL committees and working groups, ensuring decisions about scheduling, ticketing, marketing, player affairs, and operations are made collaboratively. - Shared Role in Hiring Key Personnel:
Franchises should participate in the recruitment of key PSL staff from job scoping to vetting and final selection to guarantee merit-based, credible appointments. - Professional and Depoliticized Management:
Creation of an independent, professional management structure with defined departments and empowered executives, replacing ad hoc or personality-driven approaches. - Transparent Accountability Mechanism:
Regular monthly reporting and meetings between PSL management and franchises, complete with shared agendas and tracked action points, to ensure full transparency and accountability.
A Constructive Path Forward
In his letter, Tareen reaffirmed that Multan Sultans remain fully committed to rebuilding a positive relationship with the PCB, stating that the franchise is ready to “reset the relationship in the spirit of partnership and shared responsibility.”
His proposals have been widely seen as a forward-looking and conciliatory gesture, potentially setting the stage for a more stable, professionally managed PSL structure in the years to come.
Observers note that Tareen’s approach reflects maturity and long-term vision, prioritizing the collective success of the league over individual disputes.
