Egypt Aligns with Saudi Arabia on Regional Crises

Egypt on Monday confirmed its alignment with Saudi Arabia on conflicts in Yemen, Sudan, and Somaliland. During talks in Cairo, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that their countries share identical positions on achieving peaceful solutions in the region.

They emphasized that solutions must preserve unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, specifically in Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and the Gaza Strip.

Yemen Conflict and Dialogue Efforts

Yemen continues to face internal clashes between the internationally recognized government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC). President Sisi welcomed Saudi Arabia’s proposal for an inclusive conference of southern Yemeni groups. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called for de-escalation and a Yemen-led political settlement.

Saudi Arabia’s initiative has drawn support from the STC, which described it as a genuine opportunity for dialogue to safeguard southern aspirations. Turkey also expressed readiness to facilitate talks, with President Erdogan assuring Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Turkiye’s support in bringing Yemeni factions together.

Diplomatic Engagements and Security Cooperation

Yemen’s Presidential Council member Tarek Saleh met Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khaled bin Salman to discuss joint efforts supporting regional stability and security. Meanwhile, Yemen’s government accused separatists of blocking Aden, warning it would retake territory and enforce order after recent STC advances.

Critical Analysis

Egypt and Saudi Arabia’s coordination highlights a strategic approach to stabilize the Arabian Peninsula. Their stance reinforces regional alliances, counters separatist movements, and strengthens collective security. However, past attempts show that political settlements risk delays due to deep mistrust between factions, external interventions, and economic pressures.
