Operation marks a significant blow to the TTP leadership structure in Pakistan’s northwest.
High-Profile Militant Neutralized
BAJAUR: A senior commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), identified as Qari Amjid alias Mufti Muzahim, was killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by Pakistani security forces in Bajaur district, confirmed official and intelligence sources on Thursday.
According to reports, Amjid was a prominent figure within the banned organisation, serving in multiple key positions, including TTP deputy chief, shadow defence minister, and member of the group’s central council (Shura).
Confirmation of Death
Independent monitoring outlet Khorasan Diary reported on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that Amjid was killed early Thursday morning during a targeted operation.
The report described him as a veteran militant commander responsible for several high-profile attacks and strategic planning within the TTP network.
TTP Leader’s Background
Qari Amjid had long been associated with the TTP’s Kunar-Bajaur faction, maintaining close ties with top commanders across the Afghan border.
In November 2022, the US State Department designated Amjid as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” (SDGT) due to his involvement in terrorist operations and leadership activities within the organisation.
The designation had placed financial and travel sanctions on him and his known affiliates.
Impact on TTP Structure
Security analysts described Amjid’s killing as a major setback for the TTP’s operational hierarchy, given his strategic role in the group’s defence and coordination network.
His death is expected to disrupt communication channels and weaken the group’s command chain, particularly in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border regions where the militant network remains active.
Counter-Terrorism Operations Intensify
The Bajaur operation is part of an ongoing series of counter-terrorism measures by Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies, aimed at eliminating high-value terrorist targets and restoring stability in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s tribal districts.
Officials have reiterated that the fight against terrorism will continue “until complete eradication of militant threats” from the region.
