Govt Considers Smart Lockdown Amid Fuel Crisis and Regional Tensions

Key meeting between leadership to decide next course of action

High-Level Meeting to Decide Strategy

Pakistan’s top leadership is considering the implementation of a smart lockdown in response to growing fuel concerns and rising regional tensions.

A crucial meeting between Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled for later today to evaluate the evolving situation and determine the country’s next steps.

Senior officials, including Ishaq Dar, along with the finance and petroleum ministers, are expected to attend. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also participate in the discussions.

Smart Lockdown Under Consideration

Sources indicate that authorities will receive a detailed briefing on the potential enforcement of a smart lockdown across the country.

The move aims to manage internal challenges effectively while addressing the impact of external pressures, particularly those linked to fuel supply disruptions and regional instability.

Focus on Regional Diplomacy

Apart from domestic measures, the leadership will also deliberate on Pakistan’s diplomatic stance regarding the ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran.

Officials are expected to review Pakistan’s offer to mediate and explore ways to contribute to de-escalation efforts in the region.

Sindh Takes Early Measures

Meanwhile, the Government of Sindh has already initiated precautionary steps.

The province has announced a work-from-home policy for Friday and approved a decision for cabinet members to forgo three months’ salaries as part of austerity measures.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the provincial government would fully align with federal directives aimed at preventing fuel shortages.

He added that further measures would continue until the situation stabilizes, including the possible enforcement of a lockdown if implemented nationwide.
