Cricket lovers across Pakistan can breathe a sigh of relief as Pakistan Television (PTV) has officially secured the broadcast rights for the Asia Cup 2025, ending months of speculation and uncertainty. The deal ensures that all matches will be aired on television screens nationwide, following what was described as a difficult and drawn-out negotiation process with Indian rights holders.
PTV has not only acquired the rights for the 2025 edition of the Men’s Asia Cup but also secured exclusive broadcast access to all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events from 2025 to 2027. This three-year deal includes major regional tournaments such as the 2025 and 2027 Men’s Asia Cups, the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, as well as the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup and U19 tournaments.
The breakthrough comes after months of tense back-and-forth talks, largely due to the complex political and commercial landscape between the two neighbouring nations. The Indian broadcaster, which previously bagged the pan-Asia ACC media rights in a mammoth $170 million deal lasting until 2031, reportedly placed “exorbitant” pricing demands on Pakistani networks.
With advertising revenue on the decline and sponsorship interest waning due to uncertainty over Pakistan-India matches, local broadcasters were hesitant to commit to such steep costs. At one point, insiders warned that no single Pakistani TV channel could afford the rights independently—raising the threat of a blackout or a joint consortium bid to salvage coverage.
In a significant win, PTV stepped up to secure the rights solo, marking a major victory for the state-run broadcaster. This move ensures that Pakistani fans will not miss a moment of Asia’s biggest cricketing rivalries over the next three years.
The digital rights for the Asia Cup had already been locked in earlier this year by a Pakistan-based consortium for approximately $4.3 million. However, the lack of clarity around television broadcasting had caused considerable concern among viewers, advertisers, and even players.
With the latest deal finalized, the path is now clear for uninterrupted access to high-stakes Asian cricket, including potential Pakistan-India encounters that always captivate millions. The announcement not only boosts public confidence but also reinforces PTV’s strategic role in broadcasting major sporting events.
For cricket fans, the message is clear: Asia Cup 2025 is coming home—live, loud, and in full coverage.
