US Lauds Role in Pakistan–India Ceasefire, Calls It a Diplomatic Milestone

Washington says early intervention helped avert major escalation, reiterates strong ties with both South Asian nations.

American Diplomacy Praised for Quick Action
The United States has described its role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India as a “proud moment” in its diplomatic history. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce credited swift engagement from top US leaders with preventing what could have been a “terrible escalation” during the recent spike in tensions.

Leadership Mobilized to Defuse Crisis
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Bruce noted that senior American officials acted without delay when tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours began to rise.
“There was immediate concern and immediate movement with the Vice President, the President, and the Secretary of State to halt the attacks and bring both sides to the table,” she said, calling the outcome a textbook case of effective US diplomatic intervention.

Ties with Islamabad and New Delhi ‘Remain Strong’
Bruce reassured reporters that Washington’s relationships with both Pakistan and India continue to be positive, crediting Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s open engagement with both governments. “Our diplomats remain committed to cooperation with both nations,” she added, highlighting ongoing work in areas such as counter-terrorism.

Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad
Her remarks came just a day after Pakistan and the US renewed their joint pledge to fight terrorism during the Pakistan–US Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad.
The meeting, co-chaired by Pakistan’s Special Secretary for the UN, Nabeel Munir, and US Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Gregory D. LoGerfo, discussed threats from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Daesh-Khorasan, and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Condolences and Commitments
The US delegation praised Pakistan’s efforts in dismantling terror networks and offered condolences for recent tragedies, including the Khuzdar school bus bombing and the Jaffar Express attack. Both nations explored ways to enhance institutional capacity, strengthen strategies against evolving threats, and curb the misuse of emerging technologies by extremist groups.

‘Good News for the Region’
Concluding her remarks, Bruce said that sustained US cooperation with both Pakistan and India benefits not only South Asia but the global community. “This is good news for the region and the world,” she added, expressing optimism for long-term peace and stability.
