New Policy Allows Direct VPN Subscription Without IP or Mobile Registration
Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially published a list of licensed VPN providers that can legally operate in the country, marking a significant shift in the regulation of VPN services. The move aims to strengthen cybersecurity, ensure compliance with national data protection laws, and simplify access to secure internet connections.
Under the revised Class Value Added Services (CVAS-Data) licensing system, several local companies have received authorization to offer VPN services. The approved providers include:
- Alpha 3 Cubic (Pvt.) Ltd.
- Zettabyte (Pvt.) Ltd.
- Nexilium Tech (SMC-Pvt.) Ltd.
- UKI Conic Solutions (SMC-Pvt.) Ltd.
- Vision Tech 360 (Pvt.) Ltd.
Each company will operate under its own VPN brand, providing secure and lawful connections to both individuals and businesses.
Previously, accessing VPNs in Pakistan required registration of IP addresses or mobile numbers with the PTA, a process that was often cumbersome. The new licensing framework eliminates this step, allowing users to subscribe directly to services from the approved providers.
PTA officials highlighted that the initiative will not only make VPN usage more convenient but also curb the risks associated with illegal or unregistered VPNs. The authority emphasized that the move encourages responsible digital practices, strengthens online privacy, and supports a safer internet ecosystem for Pakistani users.
The PTA has stated that this balanced approach aims to protect data security while fostering innovation and ease of access in the country’s digital space.
