Family dismisses rumours of life support; says Dharmendra is “stable and under observation.”
MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, aged 89, has been hospitalised in Mumbai, sparking concern across the Indian film industry and among fans throughout South Asia.
According to family sources, the beloved actor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after developing respiratory complications. Doctors have confirmed that Dharmendra remains stable and is under observation for precautionary monitoring.
Family Dismisses Life Support Rumours
Following a wave of social media speculation that Dharmendra had been placed on life support, the actor’s family quickly issued a clarification, calling the reports “false and exaggerated.”
In an official statement, the family said:
“Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further updates will be shared as available. We request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s privacy.”
Sources revealed that Dharmendra was initially admitted on October 31 for a routine check-up, but doctors advised him to stay under supervision due to mild respiratory concerns.

Dharmendra’s wife, veteran actor and politician Hema Malini, took to social media to thank fans for their overwhelming concern.
She wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji, who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored, and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”
She also shared a throwback photo of Dharmendra smiling a moment that drew a flood of emotional comments and prayers from fans in both India and Pakistan.
Bollywood Fraternity Visits Breach Candy Hospital
A stream of visitors from Bollywood was seen arriving at the hospital on Monday. Sunny Deol, the couple’s elder son, was among the first to visit, accompanied by his sons Karan and Rajveer Deol.
Later, Bobby Deol’s wife Tanya Deol, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Ameesha Patel were also spotted entering the hospital to check on Dharmendra’s condition.
According to onlookers, Shah Rukh Khan made a late-night visit, while Salman Khan arrived later in the evening, both leaving quietly after meeting the Deol family.
Hospital insiders have said Dharmendra is receiving respiratory care and remains in a stable condition.
Punjab Minister Extends Prayers
In Chandigarh, Punjab minister Harpal Singh Cheema extended his best wishes, saying:
“I pray to Guru Sahib that Dharmendra recovers soon, regains his health, and returns to his family. May he continue to bring joy through his acting, which is loved worldwide.”
