Security Tightened Ahead of High-Profile Visit

The Punjab government has ordered foolproof security arrangements for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who is scheduled to arrive in Lahore today for a three-day visit.

Police across the city have been placed on high alert, with authorities treating the visit as a high-security engagement due to the chief minister’s planned political and public activities.

Police Directed to Ensure Maximum Vigilance

Following instructions from the Punjab government, Lahore Police has initiated comprehensive security planning, involving coordination at multiple levels of law enforcement.

Officials confirmed that preventive measures are being implemented across the city to ensure the safety of the visiting chief minister and to maintain law and order during his stay.

Coordination Underway with KP CM’s Security Team

Lahore Police has formally contacted the security team of the KP chief minister to coordinate arrangements. However, sources say that the final schedule of the visit has not yet been shared, prompting police to prepare provisional security plans.

Authorities are keeping multiple routes and locations under consideration until the official program is finalised.

Preventive Detentions and Search Operations

As part of heightened security measures, police have begun preventive detentions of individuals with prior records of protests, road blockages, vandalism, and unrest.

According to sources, more than 600 history-sheeters have been taken into custody so far. Targeted search operations are also underway in sensitive areas along potential travel routes.

Lists of suspects have been shared with the Safe City Authority, which will use facial recognition cameras to identify individuals involved in past disturbances. Arrests are expected to continue following identification through surveillance footage.

Political Engagements During Three-Day Stay

During his visit, Sohail Afridi is scheduled to attend the Punjab Assembly and meet the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab parliamentary party.

He is also expected to visit Liberty Chowk and address lawyers at the Lahore High Court Bar Association on Saturday.

Additionally, the KP chief minister is likely to visit the residences of senior political figures, including Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Mahmudur Rasheed, Hammad Azhar, and Ijaz Chaudhry.

Authorities Remain on High Alert

Police officials said security arrangements will remain on maximum alert until the complete schedule is formally received.

Authorities emphasized that all measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of the visiting chief minister while maintaining peace and order across Lahore.
