Couple alleges irregularities, missing documents, and non-transparent conduct by trial judge
Petition Filed Against Trial Court Conduct
Lawyer and activist Imaan Mazari along with her husband Hadi Ali Chattha have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC), requesting their case be transferred due to what they describe as a lack of transparency and fairness by Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka.
The petition was filed while the couple appeared for the final hearing of their controversial tweets case at the District and Sessions Court.
According to courtroom accounts, Mazari—speaking calmly—remarked to the judge:
“Give me the sentence of seven years, I am ready.”
Judge Majoka reportedly offered no response.
Chattha Submits Section 342 Statement
During the hearing, the state counsel presented final written arguments, while Chattha, appearing on his own behalf, submitted an application for his Section 342 CrPC statement, calling it the “voice of the accused.”
He also submitted a list of witnesses, offering that they could testify online if required.
Chattha claimed:
- the prosecution had been given a questionnaire of 33 questions during cross-examination
- he and Mazari requested time to answer, but the court maintains no such request was made
- the Section 342 response submitted by the state “was not ours”
- their request for a case order copy was not fulfilled
He added that despite five hearings, three applications filed by them had been dismissed.
Lawyers Protest; Judge Walks Out
The courtroom saw unusual tension as lawyers began chanting slogans, prompting Judge Majoka to leave the courtroom abruptly.
Court officials confirmed that notices were issued to the prosecutor on Chattha’s application.
The hearing has been adjourned until Monday.
