Digital Paralysis Deepens as Internet Crisis Drags On
More than 48 hours after widespread internet degradation was first reported across Pakistan, millions of users remain affected, with no significant improvement in service quality, according to reports from across the country.
Users continue to complain of extremely slow upload speeds, unstable connections, and frequent service drops, disrupting work, education, online businesses, and digital communication nationwide.
ISP Confirms Technical Fault, Restoration Still Pending
Internet service provider Nayatel became the first major ISP to officially acknowledge the ongoing issue.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Nayatel confirmed that the disruption is due to a technical fault in one of its two upstream connectivity providers.
The company said that all stakeholders are working jointly to resolve the issue and restore normal services at the earliest possible time.
Backbone Failure Triggers Nationwide Impact
Industry sources explain that Nayatel relies on Transworld’s fiber backbone, which serves as a primary connectivity route for multiple internet service providers in Pakistan.
As a result, the fault has rippled across several ISPs, extending the disruption far beyond Nayatel’s user base and affecting large parts of the country.
Upload Speeds Remain Critically Low
Despite assurances, users report that upload speeds remain severely throttled, particularly affecting:
- Remote workers
- Freelancers
- Online businesses
- Video conferencing and cloud services
Many users say the issue has persisted unchanged for more than two days, fueling public frustration and concern over Pakistan’s digital resilience.
Silence From Authorities Raises Questions
While ISPs continue internal troubleshooting, no official statement has been issued by telecom regulators regarding the cause, scope, or estimated timeline for full restoration.
The prolonged silence has sparked criticism on social media, with users demanding transparency and accountability over recurring nationwide internet disruptions.
Digital Dependence Exposes Infrastructure Vulnerabilities
The ongoing outage once again highlights Pakistan’s heavy dependence on limited internet backbone routes, raising serious questions about network redundancy, emergency response, and digital infrastructure planning.
Experts warn that without strategic upgrades, similar disruptions could continue to cripple the country’s digital economy.
What Users Can Expect
ISPs maintain that restoration efforts are ongoing, but no definitive timeline has been announced. Users are advised to monitor official ISP updates and avoid misinformation circulating online.
