John Cena to Retire in Ring Stay With WWE as Ambassador

Cena will face Gunther this Saturday in his final WWE match.

“Cena’s in-ring career may be ending, but his WWE journey is far from over.”

John Cena has officially announced that he has signed a five-year deal with WWE, ensuring he will remain closely tied to the organisation even after retiring from active wrestling.

The 48-year-old superstar will compete in his final match on December 13, facing Gunther at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, a fitting end to a career that began in 2002.

What Is Happening With Cena’s Career?

Cena’s final match comes after Gunther earned the opportunity by defeating LA Knight in The Last Time Is Now tournament. This sets the stage for a historic farewell for one of WWE’s most iconic superstars.

Even though Cena will no longer wrestle, he revealed in a WWE YouTube interview:

“I will be an ambassador to WWE. I am already signed on for another five years… I would like to be in this family as an employee and as a contributing part for as long as I can.”

Why Cena Is Stepping Away From The Ring

Cena admitted he can no longer perform at the high physical level required in today’s WWE, saying:

“I can’t match up with the product now, and that’s okay because what I do isn’t who I am.”

He emphasised that stepping away from wrestling does not lessen his connection to WWE. Cena sees his new role as an opportunity to reach more fans worldwide and promote WWE on a larger scale.

How Cena Will Continue With WWE

Cena’s five-year deal will keep him in WWE as an ambassador, allowing him to contribute off-screen while mentoring new talent and representing the company globally.

His in-ring retirement marks the end of a legendary two-decade career, filled with world championships, iconic rivalries, and unforgettable moments from the Ruthless Aggression era to the modern global WWE stage.

“Cena’s legacy will continue; inside and outside the ring.”

As Cena walks down the ramp one final time against Gunther, fans will witness both an ending and a beginning: the conclusion of his wrestling career and the start of a new chapter as WWE ambassador and mentor.

Even though his days in the ring are over, Cena’s influence, visibility, and impact on WWE will remain strong for years to come.
