Players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe attend special luncheon hosted by PM Shehbaz
Dedication of Teams Praised
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a luncheon in Islamabad to honour the cricket teams from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe participating in the Tri-Nation Series.
Players and officials from all teams attended the ceremony.
The prime minister praised the commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship demonstrated by the players. He noted that each team had proudly represented its country while delivering high-quality cricket throughout the tournament.
Sportsmanship Highlighted for Youth Inspiration
PM Shehbaz emphasised the importance of sportsmanship, saying athletes must set an example for the youth.
He acknowledged the role of the PCB Chairman, adding that the board ensured excellent logistical and organisational arrangements for the series.
International Cricket Strengthens Pakistan’s Image
The prime minister said that the successful continuation of international cricket in Pakistan reflects the country’s stability, improved security landscape, and positive global image.
He expressed confidence that the series would provide fans with top-tier cricket and further promote the sport across the region.
Strengthening Regional Ties Through Sports
PM Shehbaz added that cricket offers an opportunity to deepen friendship and cooperation among Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
He reiterated that Pakistan will continue hosting international teams with the same spirit and hospitality in the future.
Growing Concerns Over Sports Governance
Despite the celebratory event, sports analysts continue to raise concerns about governance gaps within Pakistan’s sports administration. Critics argue that while the Prime Minister highlights progress, persistent structural issues, inconsistent long-term planning, and recurring management disputes within various sports institutions remain unaddressed. They stress that improving internal systems is just as crucial as hosting foreign teams if Pakistan aims to build a truly competitive and sustainable sports environment.
