Pakistan opt to field first in the opening ODI at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad
FAISALABAD November 4 2025: South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock made a stunning return to the ODI format, scoring his 31st career half-century in the first ODI against Pakistan at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Teaming up with Lhuan-dre Pretorius, the left-handed opener helped his side to a solid start after Pakistan elected to field first.
Pretorius Impresses with 57
Youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius continued his fine form, crafting a 60-ball 57 laced with seven boundaries and a six. His composed yet aggressive approach provided the perfect complement to de Kock’s fluent strokeplay.
The pair added a valuable 98-run partnership for South Africa before Saim Ayub broke through, dismissing Pretorius at a crucial stage.
De Kock Back in Rhythm
Playing his first ODI since announcing a brief break from international cricket, de Kock looked at ease from the outset, rotating the strike efficiently and punishing loose deliveries with signature drives and cuts. His 50 came off 62 balls, marking a confident comeback for one of South Africa’s most experienced players.
Pakistan’s Bowling Decision
Pakistan’s skipper chose to field first, hoping to exploit early morning conditions at Faisalabad. However, the decision didn’t yield immediate success as South Africa’s openers negotiated the initial swing effectively.
With de Kock and Pretorius laying the foundation, the visitors will look to post a competitive total in the series opener.
