Northern and western areas to see winter peaks; plains to face dense fog

Pakistan is set to face a major shift in winter conditions, with the Meteorological Department forecasting rain, snowfall and dense fog across the country in the coming days. The latest system is expected to affect upper and plain regions, creating travel challenges, reduced visibility and colder temperatures.

REGIONAL BREAKDOWN

KP to Receive Rain and Snowfall (Dec 13–15)

The PMD says upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see rain and snowfall, particularly in mountainous districts.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious of slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Wintry Spell for Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir

Light to moderate snowfall is forecast for parts of GB and AJK, with temperatures expected to drop sharply.
The Met Office says typical mid-December winter conditions will prevail as the weather system intensifies.

Rain and Snowfall Expected in Balochistan (Dec 14–15)

Several districts in Balochistan are set to receive rain and snowfall, which may offer relief from dry conditions but could also lead to travel disruptions.

Local advisories may be issued depending on precipitation levels.

Light Activity in Cities: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar

Urban centers will likely experience drizzle, while Murree may see light snowfall, potentially attracting tourists but also increasing risks on hilly roads.

Dense Fog to Blanket Plains of Punjab, KP & Sindh

The PMD warns that heavy fog will reduce visibility in:

  • Lahore
  • Faisalabad
  • Multan
  • Peshawar plains
  • Upper Sindh regions

Motorway travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially during early morning and nighttime hours.

New Weather System Arriving December 19

Another westerly wave is expected to enter Pakistan from December 19, bringing further rain and snowfall to northern and western regions.
