Salman Ali Agha Likely to Be Named Multan Sultans Captain

Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson leads race for head coach position

Multan Sultans are set for a possible leadership overhaul ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, with sources indicating that Salman Ali Agha is likely to be appointed as the franchise’s new captain.

If confirmed, Salman Agha is unlikely to feature for Islamabad United in the upcoming PSL season, marking a significant shift in his domestic commitments.

Mike Hesson Front-Runner for Head Coach

Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has emerged as the leading candidate for the role of head coach of Multan Sultans. Sources say the franchise is exploring multiple options as part of a broader restructuring plan ahead of the next PSL edition.

In addition to Hesson, discussions are reportedly ongoing with several former international cricketers for coaching and management roles.

PCB to Decide Final Structure

Sources revealed that the final decision regarding Multan Sultans’ leadership and management structure will be taken by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The PCB has already begun consultations to appoint an interim management team for the franchise ahead of PSL 11. Several former national cricketers, including Abdul Razzaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Taufeeq Umar, are under consideration for key roles.

Mushtaq Ahmed’s Prior Association

Former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has previously worked with Multan Sultans as a spin consultant, giving him familiarity with the franchise’s setup. His prior involvement is considered a factor strengthening his candidacy for a coaching role.

Ramiz Raja Considered for Administrative Role

Sources also said that former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is being considered for administrative responsibilities related to Multan Sultans, although no formal appointment has yet been finalized.

PCB to Manage Franchise During PSL 11

For PSL 11, the PCB will directly oversee all operational and administrative affairs of Multan Sultans. This arrangement will remain in place throughout the season.

Sources added that the PCB plans to finalize a new owner for the franchise after the conclusion of PSL 11. Until then, the board will continue managing the team.

Former owner Ali Tareen previously announced his departure from Multan Sultans after not receiving a PSL renewal letter, prompting the PCB to step in and assume temporary control of the franchise.
