Todays Morning Updates Motorways Blocked Due to Dense Fog

Multiple Motorway Closures Across Punjab

Dense fog with near-zero visibility forced authorities to temporarily close several major motorway sections early this morning to prevent road accidents:

M-1 from Peshawar to Rashakai
M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar
M-3 from Faizpur to Rajana
M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan
M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir
M-11 (Lahore–Sialkot) also suspended due to hazardous visibility conditions.

Officials said the closures were precautionary to protect commuters and avoid chain-reaction collisions when visibility drops suddenly.

Traffic & Safety Advice Issued

The Motorway Police and authorities issued strong travel advisories including:

Avoid unnecessary travel until visibility improves
Travel only during safer daylight hours (approx. 10:00 am – 6:00 pm)
Use fog lights and maintain lane discipline
Keep a safe distance from other vehicles
Motorway Police helpline (130) available for live updates and help

Broader Weather Conditions

Fog is not isolated to motorways — it has spread across many areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, significantly reducing visibility on highways and city roads.

Smog and air pollution levels have also worsened in some cities alongside fog.

Why This Is Significant

These closures happened during early morning hours, the period when fog is usually the thickest and most dangerous for high-speed travel. The authorities took preventive action rather than waiting for accidents to occur — a decision rooted in public safety over convenience.
