Senator says strict measures, including a ban, being considered if PTI holds Islamabad protest.
ISLAMABAD — Senator Faisal Vawda has warned that strict action will be taken if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) proceeds with its planned protest in Islamabad on November 26, saying the government is prepared to take “every possible step,” including imposing a ban or Governor’s Rule, if necessary.
Speaking during an appearance on Samaa TV’s “Nadeem Malik Live”, Vawda said the government will not tolerate any activity that disrupts law and order, especially amid heightened political tensions.
Governor’s Rule and Ban Options Under Discussion
Vawda said that discussions were ongoing regarding possible enforcement of Governor’s Rule in the capital region if the PTI demonstration goes ahead.
“If PTI goes for protests on November 26, stern action will follow,” he said, adding that authorities have been directed to ensure complete preparedness for any unlawful gatherings.
The senator emphasized that no leniency will be shown to those who violate the law or create instability in the country.
‘Nothing Significant Will Happen for PTI Founder This Year’
Vawda downplayed expectations of any political breakthrough for the PTI founder, saying:
“Nothing significant is expected to happen for him this year. If this political approach continues, more difficulties lie ahead.”
He also remarked that internal divisions within PTI have weakened the party’s overall stance, adding that Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s group holds no major influence, though he described Qureshi as “innocent” regarding the May 9 incidents.
Vawda Urges Fairness in Ongoing Trials
The senator went on to say that Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Shibli Faraz are “good people” and should be released if found not guilty.
“We should not punish the innocent, regardless of political differences,” he stated.
Vawda’s remarks come as PTI leaders continue to face multiple legal proceedings stemming from the events of May 9, which saw violent protests erupt nationwide following the arrest of the party’s founder.
Political Climate Remains Tense Ahead of November 26
With less than three weeks until the proposed PTI protest date, political observers say tensions are once again rising between the government and opposition.
Authorities have reportedly started drafting contingency plans to prevent large-scale demonstrations in the federal capital, including possible road closures, enhanced security deployment, and digital monitoring of political activities.
