ISLAMABAD, August 14: Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day was marked not only by celebrations at home but also by warm messages from leaders, diplomats, and governments across the globe. From Washington to Beijing, and from Ankara to Moscow, friendly nations extended their best wishes, reaffirming bonds of friendship and pledging to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered nationwide for peace, unity, and prosperity.
United States Praises Pakistan’s Role in Security and Trade
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the American greetings, expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism and trade cooperation. “We look forward to exploring new areas of economic cooperation, including critical minerals and hydrocarbons,” he said, noting the importance of fostering “dynamic business partnerships” between the two nations.
The US State Department’s South and Central Asian Affairs Bureau also extended “warm wishes” and reaffirmed the commitment to deepening people-to-people and economic ties.
Several US lawmakers, including Congress members Pete Sessions, Yvette Clarke, Judy Chu, and Zoe Lofgren, lauded the contributions of the Pakistani-American community. Senator Chris Van Hollen, born in Karachi, shared his personal connection with Pakistan, praising the diaspora’s role in American society. New Jersey State Assemblywoman Shama Haider called for unity and continued progress, declaring, “Pakistan lives in our hearts.”
China Reaffirms ‘Ironclad Friendship’
China’s embassy in Islamabad congratulated the Pakistani people, wishing the country continued prosperity. “May the ironclad friendship between China and Pakistan grow ever stronger,” the statement read, ending with the slogan, “Chin–Pak Dosti Zindabad!”
Regional Allies Send Warm Messages
Iran extended “sincere congratulations” and wished the Pakistani nation peace and wellbeing.
Afghanistan’s embassy in Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening friendship and regional cooperation.
Turkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed Pakistan as a “friendly and brotherly” nation, while Azerbaijan called Pakistan a “brotherly people” in its Independence Day greeting.
Russia Highlights Pakistan’s Achievements
The Russian Embassy noted Pakistan’s “significant progress” since independence and praised its contributions to space exploration. The message honoured Pakistan’s adherence to the principles of its founders, Allama Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Europe Shows Solidarity
The European Union’s delegation to Pakistan celebrated “friendship and unity” with the Pakistani people.
France extended its “warmest congratulations,” while Germany’s Consul General in Karachi recalled the Lahore Resolution as a bold call for justice and equality, urging that its ideals be protected today.
Romania’s ambassador expressed prayers for Pakistan’s success and unity, pledging closer ties in trade, education, and culture.
Ukraine hailed its “mutually beneficial relations” with Pakistan, expressing hope for deeper cooperation.
Sweden and Switzerland also sent heartfelt greetings.
