Dengue Cases Surge in Sindh
Sindh’s health authorities have reported 819 new dengue cases in the past 24 hours, highlighting a rising health concern in the province.
The provincial health department confirmed that Karachi recorded 522 cases, while Hyderabad accounted for 297 new infections.
Testing and Hospitalizations
A total of 4,562 dengue tests were conducted across public and private laboratories during the same period, reflecting an active surveillance effort.
- Karachi: 73 patients admitted to government hospitals and 35 to private hospitals
- Hyderabad & other areas: Remaining patients admitted across local health facilities
- Total dengue hospitalizations in Sindh: 135 patients
Fortunately, no dengue-related deaths have been reported in the province so far.
Why This Is Happening
Health experts attribute the spike in dengue cases to:
- Increasing mosquito breeding due to stagnant water after recent rains
- Urban congestion in cities like Karachi and Hyderabad
- Delayed preventive measures in some districts
Authorities are urging residents to maintain clean surroundings, use mosquito repellents, and seek medical attention early if they develop fever or dengue symptoms.
Impact on Public Health
- Hospitals are experiencing higher patient inflow, putting pressure on healthcare resources
- The rising numbers indicate a need for stricter preventive action and public awareness campaigns
- Quick containment is crucial to prevent a larger outbreak in coming weeks
