PCB Finalises 10 Bidders for Expansion of Pakistan Super League

Auction for new PSL franchises scheduled to take place in Islamabad on January 8

The base price for the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises has been fixed at approximately Rs100 crore, sources said on Thursday, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moves ahead with plans to expand the league.

According to sources, the PCB has finalised 10 bidders who will take part in the auction process for the new franchises, marking a key step toward the addition of two more teams to the PSL.

Auction Scheduled for January 8

Sources said the auction of the two new PSL teams will be held in Islamabad on January 8. The event is expected to attract considerable attention from investors, former cricketers, and stakeholders as the league continues its expansion.

Adding a cultural element to the high-profile ceremony, renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is expected to perform at the auction event, sources revealed.

PCB Highlights Infrastructure Development

Earlier, the PCB expressed satisfaction over significant improvements in Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure during 2025, undertaken in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy.

In a press release, the board said stadium upgrade projects carried out last year have reshaped the country’s cricketing landscape ahead of the mega event, which will mark Pakistan’s first ICC major tournament in 29 years.

Under the vision of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, several major stadiums underwent comprehensive renovations to meet international standards.

Gaddafi Stadium Rebuilt Ahead of Champions Trophy

The PCB highlighted that Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was rebuilt in record time, with the project completed ahead of schedule. The upgraded venue now features modern dressing rooms, new spectator enclosures, improved entry and exit points, and advanced LED floodlights.

The infrastructure upgrades are seen as a major boost for both international cricket and domestic leagues, including the expanding PSL.
