Rescue 1122 activates emergency plan amid PMD forecast of snow, rain, and hail.
RAWALPINDI, November 4, 2025: With the winter season approaching, Murree and adjoining hilly regions are bracing for severe weather conditions as Rescue 1122 issued a special advisory urging tourists and residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in the coming days.
The Punjab Emergency Service Department (Rescue 1122) Murree announced that it had activated its Emergency Core Plan, putting all rescue stations and field teams on round-the-clock alert to deal with potential rain, snowfall, and road hazards.
Rescue 1122 on Full Alert
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that “in view of the winter season, rainfall and hail, all rescue stations and key points in Murree and Kotli Sattian will remain on full alert under our Emergency Core Plan.”
He added that personnel had been equipped with rescue vehicles, ambulances, and life-saving equipment, while 24-hour camp-points had been set up at key locations to assist travelers and locals in case of emergencies.
The department also advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel, ensure their vehicles are fitted with snow chains and carry sufficient fuel, and to contact the Rescue helpline 1122 immediately in case of an emergency.
PMD Forecasts Snow, Rain, and Thunderstorms
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a western weather system has entered the country’s northern regions and is expected to persist until November 5.
The forecast predicts rain, thunderstorms, high winds, and snowfall in Murree, Galiyat, Attock District, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and other upper Punjab areas.
Meteorologists have cautioned that the combination of snow and freezing temperatures could make roads dangerously slippery, particularly in hilly terrain.
Public Urged to Stay Cautious
Rescue 1122 officials highlighted that the risk of accidents increases sharply during snowfall and extreme cold, as slippery roads and reduced visibility make driving treacherous.
“People should plan their journeys carefully, avoid night travel in snow-prone areas, and strictly follow safety advisories,” the spokesperson emphasized.
The department has also urged hotels and guesthouses in Murree and Galiyat to coordinate with emergency services and assist stranded visitors if road closures occur.
Preparedness Ahead of Tourist Season
As the popular hill station prepares for an influx of winter tourists, authorities say that ensuring safety remains their top priority.
Rescue teams have been strategically deployed at sensitive points to handle potential incidents, including vehicle skids, medical emergencies, and road blockages due to snow.
Officials also confirmed that coordination has been established with the district administration, traffic police, and weather monitoring agencies for a unified emergency response.
With snow and rain expected to blanket Murree and nearby regions, Rescue 1122’s proactive preparedness aims to prevent a repeat of past winter tragedies.
Citizens are advised to stay informed through official weather updates, follow travel advisories, and prioritize safety over leisure as Pakistan’s northern hills prepare for the season’s first major winter spell.
